[Hiring Manager’s Name] [Coffee Shop Address] [City, State, Zip Code] [Telephone No.] [Hiring Manager’s Email]

Dear [Mr./Mrs./Ms.] [Hiring Manager’s Surname],

Since I was a teen, I’ve loved putting a smile on people’s faces by serving them great coffee. With an SCA certification and more than four years of experience in coffee making, customer service, and sales, I’m confident I would be an ideal fit for your newly announced barista position.

I’m currently the lead barista for the early shift at Kingston Coffee in Armstrong, Iowa. In my role, I manage two baristas and oversee the service of customers plus the execution of in-store sales and promotions. During my time here, I’ve built a reputation for outstanding service, and I also have a knack for remembering individual customers’ names and beverages of choice.

During my career as a barista, I’ve had the opportunity to undergo excellent training, expand my coffee knowledge, and achieve significant accomplishments such as:

• Helping grow the number of regular customers through great service and friendly attitude at Kingston Coffee, contributing to a 10% increase in revenue in the last year • Updating Kingston Coffee’s old POS system, which led to a 25% increase in productivity • Providing a high level of service by tactfully responding to customer feedback, complaints, and suggestions, which improved our Yelp rating from 4.1 stars to 4.8

As a coffee lover myself, I’ve read countless books, articles, and videos on all things caffeine. Moreover, I take pleasure in sharing my expertise, which helped me train multiple baristas on coffee making, customer service, and memory tricks to memorize dozens of menu items quickly.

Working for [Coffee Shop Name] is an amazing opportunity. I’m excited at the prospect of joining your team, and I’d love the chance to meet you in person. You may reach me by phone at 712 384-1047 or via email — [email protected] to arrange an interview.

Thank you for taking the time to review my application.

How to write a barista cover letter

Learning how to put together a cover letter for the specific job(s) you want will help you land more interviews.

To show a coffee shop owner you’ll make a great addition to their team, pair your barista resume with a professional cover letter.

Follow these three tips to write a barista cover letter that employers love — whether you have no experience yet or are a veteran behind the counter.

1. Highlight your top barista skills

As a barista, you’ll spend your time greeting customers, taking orders, and preparing various specialty drinks. So aside from being able to make a great cup of coffee, you must also be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment that requires both interacting with people and making great beverages.

In your cover letter, highlight key barista skills (which are in many ways the same as customer service skills ). These soft skills (traits tied to your personality that make you a good employee) are crucial for baristas, because they ensure you can handle your day-to-day tasks while keeping customers happy.

Here’s an example of how to showcase these skills in your cover letter:

I helped grow the number of regular customers through great service and a friendly attitude at XYZ Coffeeshop, contributing to a 10% increase in revenue last year.

Here’s a list of key barista skills to include in your cover letter:

2. Use proper cover letter format

Barista jobs have few formal requirements, so you can apply for most barista positions even with no experience.

To ensure your job application makes the best possible impression, you must format both your resume and cover letter correctly. Presenting your qualifications in a well-organized manner makes your application more appealing to a hiring manager who has dozens (or hundreds) of applications to review.

Here’s how to properly format your cover letter:

3. Open with a strong cover letter introduction

Because you’ll be vying against many others for the position, you need to begin your cover letter with a compelling introduction to set yourself apart.

Your cover letter introduction should not only catch the hiring manager’s attention, but also spark enough interest to make them want to learn more about you in person.

Here’s how to write a strong barista cover letter introduction:

Dear Shawn,

Fall is my favorite season. And it’s not because of the nostalgic weather or the colors on the streets. I’m waiting an entire year to finally put my hands on your spiced latte that you serve only then. There’s something to it that brings my friends and me together.

I’ve been growing my barista skills in busy chain cafés for 2+ years now. I’m also currently working towards a Culinary Arts degree at Wisconsin Culinary College, where Hospitality, Customer Service, and Beverage Operations Management are part of the coursework. A year ago, I received my Barista Guild Certification Level 2 from the Barista Guild of America.

Indeed, the certification is an achievement, but so is a year as a Barista & Cafe Server at Costa Coffee with a 99.3% CSAT based on receipt surveys. One of the customers called me out in their review, saying it’d been the fastest and best coffee they’d ever drunk. Ultimately, it made him stay in the coffee shop to work from there instead of the office that day. He loved the atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff he met. Jeff has his dedicated table at the café now.

I was thrilled to see a posting for a barista job at Grand Cafe because I’ve been your customer for as long I can only remember. It feels like home to me, and I’m not the only one who thinks that way. Knowing what my friends and family say about the place and looking at the reviews online, I’m positive it’s the place you want to come back to each day.

Let’s arrange a meeting or call to discuss my barista and customer service skills that you and Grand Cafe’s clients will surely benefit from.

With kind regards,

Bill Kirkland

4 Expert Barista Cover Letter Writing Tips

Craft your cover letter the way you would the perfect cappuccino – with the right amount of finesse. Follow this guide to make sure every word hits the mark.

1. Be Conversational

Instead of writing in a dry, reserved voice, use a casual, friendly tone . You want to engage with the hiring manager the way you would with one of your customers.

Be professional but conversational at the same time. If you come off stiff in your cover letter, who’s to say that’s not the atmosphere you would bring to the coffee shop?

One of the easiest ways to avoid an icy presence is by starting your cover letter the right way . Most candidates say something like this:

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is [Your Name] and I am applying for position of barista at [Company Name].

The first problem in starting off this way is in using “To Whom It May Concern.” Leading with an impersonal address shows that you didn’t research the company enough to pick up the hiring manager’s name and creates distance between you and the reader.

Another issue with the introductory line in the example above is that it gives nothing away about the candidate except for the basic information that has already been stated.

Contrary to popular belief, you don’t need to reiterate your name here. It should already be at the top of your resume. Instead, give them a glimpse of who you are and why you’re applying .

Check out the right way to lead with a conversational introduction:

I’m thrilled to be applying for the barista position at [Company’s Name] as referred to me by [Employee or Regular Customer Name].

2. Do Your Research

Look into the company, their values, goals, and developments, and integrate what you discover into your cover letter. Make it clear that you know the company enough to know that you would be the right fit .

There are a few ways to get a good feel for the company you’re applying to:

Explain how you plan to contribute to their unique trajectory like the candidate does in the example below:

Not only did this applicant succeed in showing the hiring manager that they care enough about the company to do their research, but they provide an example of how they will actively contribute to that company’s goals.

3. Be Yourself

While resumes are fairly uniform in structure and style, a cover letter gives you the opportunity to share more of your personality with a future employer. Let them know WHY you’re applying to the job and what your experience has been in this industry.

Check out the way this candidate does it:

barista-be-yourself-jing

Instead of just stating that they’ve worked in the industry for a few years, the applicant expresses a genuine interest in the coffee business and even identifies elements of coffee crafting that that enjoy:

Don’t be afraid to show a personality in your cover letter and uncover enough about you to leave them wanting to learn more in an interview.

4. Close with a Call-to-Action

Always sign off with a polite request for an interview and your contact information like this:

Instead of writing “ I hope to hear from you soon ,” end on a note of confidence by saying “ I look forward to hearing from you soon. ”

Your cover letter is bound to shine if you use these writing tips and the example above. However, if you want to save the time and hassle, go to our cover letter builder to have a professional help you craft a killer cover letter in minutes.

Molly Pratt 123 Coffee Cove Ln. Beantown, Illinois 90219 (888) 888-8888 [email protected]

Dear Mr. Jenkins,

My name is Molly Pratt, and I’m applying for the barista position at the Taste coffee shop. With my two years of experience as the barista at the Bean, my creative coffees, and my track record in increasing customer loyalty, I believe I ‘m the barista you need to build your market share.

Because of my time at the Bean, I’m expertly skilled in mixing many classic and contemporary espresso drinks; running the cash register; grinding beans; making bean orders; and helping customers choose coffees and accoutrements such as pastries, sandwiches, and cookies.

As I’m passionate about espresso and have a  mostly manageable coffee addition, I love making new coffee-based concoctions, a few of which might help build the Taste fandom. I also learn coffee recipes and foam creations relatively quickly.

In relation to customer service, I always attempt to learn the names and key details of all the regular customers. This has been an essential part of my successful ability to turn new customers into regulars.  I usually gain high approval ratings on customer satisfaction surveys. While working for my previous employer, I’m proud of my contribution to the 15% increase in sales and 30% growth in customer satisfaction in the past year.  I’m also a team player who enjoys helping my colleagues during a time or labor crunch and works hard to maintain an upbeat atmosphere within the team.

With my industry experience and skills, I believe I could be an asset to your fantastic coffee enterprise. Thank you for your consideration! I’m always reachable for any job or coffee related queries at [email protected], and I hope to discuss some ways in which I will contribute to Taste soon.

Best wishes,

Molly Pratt

Barista Cover Letter Examples

Cover letter examples for barista with no experience, tips on how to write a cover letter for a barista job, barista cover letter template.

The job of a barista often involves making and serving quality beverages, taking and managing orders, cleaning equipment and working areas, and sometimes stocking the store. On top of that, a barista must have excellent communication skills to deliver a great customer experience.

A barista in different settings means different things. The work scope of a barista may remain the same but different settings ask for different background knowledge. If you work in a coffee shop or a coffee house, you must learn about a wide range of tea and coffee. But if you work in a bar or a pub, expertise in alcohol is much more important.

To work as a barista, you have to go through a three-round recruitment process that often includes an online application, a knowledge test, and a final interview. In this article, we’ll cover some insightful barista cover letter writing tips with extra examples that help you proceed to the next round of the process!

For a better understanding of a cover letter structure and how to generate ideas for your cover letter writing process, here're two barista cover letter examples. In each example, we'll provide you with some tips and key takeaways that are helpful for you.

General Barista Cover Letter

Dear Ms. Stacy,

I am writing to express my sincere interest in the position of Barista at Black Bird Coffee Shop. With over two years of experience serving a wide range of specialty coffee and tea beverages, I'm eager to learn more while contributing knowledge and adding value to your team.

Regarding my recent position as a barista at New Land Coffee & Tea, I was responsible for the formula-creating process of the shop's several signature drinks. I was also in charge of training new baristas and managing communication lines between staff and customers to ensure effective work during high-volume hours. The opportunity here has helped me in perfecting my barista skills while offering me a great deal of coffee knowledge.

Given the position you're hiring, I’m looking forward to employing my background as a coffee specialist to the success of your new menu launching while spreading some coffee knowledge to the community.

With the skills that I have developed and the knowledge that I have obtained so far, I hope that I will have an opportunity to be a contributing member of your organization.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best regards, John Pullman

Starbucks Barista Cover Letter

Dear Mr. Lenon,

My name is Chadwick and I'm writing to express my sincere enthusiasm for the barista position that is opening at Starbucks. As a skilled barista who has extensive experience working in 5 coffee shops, I believe that my set of skills and experiences will be of great interest to you.

Regarding my experience, I was the lead barista for the afternoon shift at Kingdom Coffee in Manchester. In my role, I supervised two baristas in the coffee blending and making process and oversaw the service of customers. During my time here, I’ve learned a great deal of coffee knowledge and the operation process of a coffee shop.

Apart from my ability to adopt standard measures and recipes, I also have the experience exercising my customer service skills and I believe that I have acquired the necessary skill set to provide such excellent customer service as a Starbucks Barista.

Working for Starbucks is an amazing opportunity and I’m eager to learn more about Starbucks' way of making coffee and delivering excellent customer service.

I have attached in this mail my resume as a Barista, and I hope to have a chance to discuss them with you in detail.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely, Chadwick Nguyen

As a barista to-be with no experience, it's never an easy job producing content for your cover letter. In this part, we'll look at a few cover letter examples for baristas with no experience, along with delivering each example's pro tips for your own barista application letter.

Barista Cover Letter with No Experience - Example 1

Dear Mr. Hughes,

I'm writing to express my interest in applying for the Barista position at Corn Coffee. As someone with a hospitality background and extensive knowledge of coffee blending, I hope to have a chance to be a contributing staff at your coffee shop.

While I haven't had an opportunity to work in a coffee shop yet, my time at the university has allowed me to take extensive courses on customer service and drink formulas, both of which I’m in the top 5 most excellent students. My passion for coffee-making has led me to experiment with different types of brewing techniques.

In addition to my studies, I have also acquired a wide range of soft skills needed for the position through several extracurricular activities as mentioned in my attached resume.

With strong determination and a willingness to gain more knowledge about the work scope of a barista, I feel I can succeed well in this role while helping the company improve its customer experience.

Thank you so much for your consideration and I look forward to having a chance to discuss my qualifications and skills in more depth.

Best regards, Jane Smith

💡 Pro Tip:  Presenting your relevant qualifications together with quantified achievements is a great way to make up for your lack of experience while also demonstrating your potential to the hiring managers.

Barista Cover Letter with No Experience - Example 2

Dear Ms. Maria,

I’m writing with the hope to discuss with you the job posting of a Barista for entry-level on Indeed. I’m eager to strengthen my drink blending skills and coffee knowledge while working for you.

I'm currently earning my bachelor's degree in hospitality at Central University, where I'm gaining professional knowledge of customer service and communication skills. In addition to my university studies, I’m also taking an extensive barista course provided by The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) - a global, non-profit trade organization devoted to specialty coffee. This upcoming summer, I'm joining my school's internship program as one of the top candidates at The Central North Hotel where I’ll be gaining hands-on experience and applying my knowledge from my courses.

Regarding the position you're hiring, I believe that I'll be a great fit considering the job responsibilities which revolve around making and blending a variety of coffee and tea. It will be a great opportunity for me to not only gain a better understanding of coffee brewing techniques but also to practice what I've learned.

With the skills and knowledge I've obtained so far, I truly hope that I have a chance to contribute my brewing skills while also learning from your well-known signature drinks.

Thank you so much for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Samatha Wright

💡 Pro Tip:  Providing details on your relevant studies/courses in your barista cover letter with regards to the position as a barista helps you demonstrate your capabilities to take on the role, despite having a lack of experience.

Barista Cover Letter with No Experience - Example 3

Dear Mr. Michael,

It is with great enthusiasm that I submit my application for the vacancy of Barista at your coffee shop. I graduated from Bristol University majoring in hospitality. My time at the university has offered me countless opportunities to take part in many restaurant events where I got to practice both my customer service skills and drink formulas.

Supplementary to my education in hospitality, I have gained valuable knowledge of coffee brewing as an active member of the Coffee Lover Association. Through the association's regular extracurricular activities, I have strengthened my brewing skill as well as gained a better understanding of how certain coffee formulas work.

With regard to the position you're hiring for, I believe that my knowledge and similar experience at the association make me a perfect fit for the vacancy. I was in charge of researching, experimenting, and presenting new formulas for the association's monthly tea launching events. I was also assigned to prepare all the materials and types of equipment for those events.

Pushing myself toward becoming a Barista Specialist in a house of tea has always been important to me, and I know that this position allows me to grow and expand my skill set while delivering quality work for your team regarding my knowledge.

As someone who is detail-oriented, goals-driven, and dedicated to creating great work, I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely, Peter Williams

Barista Cover Letter Template (Full Text Version)

Dear Hiring Manager,

As an experienced Barista with a very thorough appreciation for all aspects of the coffee industry, I apply with enthusiasm for this opportunity.

I joined Hearty Coffee in 2016 as a Trainee Barista, where I learned the ropes of how a successful roaster and retailer operates. I eagerly absorbed everything I possibly could from my peers. This dedication saw me promoted to Barista and now Lead Barista, where my responsibilities are as diverse as they are interesting. In addition to knowledgeably brewing coffee and serving guests, I am actively involved in cupping events, pop-up events, and training and mentoring new colleagues.

I have a robust respect for back-of-shop procedures that guests may never witness, but which directly impact their individual experiences. For example, I’m not afraid to help junior staff polish and scrub, refresh and replace, or clean and maintain equipment, stock, and facilities. I treat colleagues, management, and vendors with respectful consideration, and go out of my way to create awesome memories for our guests each and every time.

I have loved every minute of my time at Hearty Coffee. I am now ready to take on a challenging opportunity in a new environment, where my passion and abilities will have a positive impact.

Please find attached my résumé for your consideration. Thank you very much for your time, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Ann Barista Address: xxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxx Tel: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Email: xxxxxxxx Linkedin: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Dear Andrew,

I have just moved to your city and bring with me some of the best Barista experience possible. For the past three years I have been a Barista at award-winning coffee house, Counter Culture Coffee, under Lem Butler (voted in the Top 6 Baristas at the 2016 World Barista Championship). With this experience, I believe I am perfect to help you met your launch statement of offering 'world-class coffee'.

Coffee has been my life for ten years and for three years professionally, I know all about the best blends and how to create the perfect cup of coffee. Under Lem I helped create coffee that people would travel for miles to come and drink, and I can do that for your establishment as well.

Your job advert explains you are looking for a Barista that will help guide the opening of your new coffee house in the equipment you use and also to help management decide on what coffee to offer. This is something I have been doing with great success.

Reading about your company I was impressed by your drive and the scale of your ambition, as well as your insistence on quality. This is the kind of culture I want to belong to and I feel I have so much to offer you in achieving your goals.

I would love the opportunity to use my recent experience as a benefit to your opening and look forward to discussing this with you further.

Kind regards, Ann Barista
